Hawthorn V Richmond Rd 21 2004 Sunday 22/08/2004 MCG
The Crystal Ball and I have been kept busy and up late cheering the Aussies to victory in the Olympics and footy has largely taken a backseat, but it is footy season and the footy still goes on.
Last time around I thought the Hawks would win this one. Richmond got over the line in a tight finish. This time it is almost impossible to pick. The two teams are last and second last respectively. This has been billed as the battle for the wooden spoon.
Last time one of the deciding factors was big Brad Ottens, he isn't there this time and Peter 'Spida' Everitt is for the Hawks. Lack of a quality ruckman could just decide this game in the Hawks favour. It won't be much of a spectacle, watching teams fight for survival never is. I doubt the mood at Richmond will be affected by a loss, the Tigers have a coach for 2005 and many players know that they are due to feel the wrath of a poor season, the Hawks are in limbo, no coach and no real idea of what 2005 holds. The uncertainty and the fact that they have a ruckman and a more effective midfield should seen them register win number 4 for the season and maybe consign Richmond to the wooden spoon and the no 1 draft pick. Step on down Brett Deledio!
