2008: The Final Year

Injured Seahawks

Week 2: Seattle 30 - San Francisco 33

Well, let's see. The game started so depleted with receivers that Seneca Wallace was to come in as a wide receiver and punt returner. Which is all good and well except that he limped off the field into the tunnel to the locker room and when he thought he was out of sight, he turned off the bravery and winced in pain. Gone for the game after an injury in warm ups.

We started 3 and out and got boos from the fans on a lousy punt after we released our punter this week following his pitiful performance last week. First pass of our second series Logan Payne suffered an injury that took him out of the game.

We had to punt, the punt was blocked, in a weird twist of events Big Play Babs picked it up and ran for a first down, our tight end Carlson had a great reception, Jones ran it in the end zone for a touchdown and we were up by 7!

The day was just bizarre. Peterson got a sack and celebrated a little too much, apparently, and was flagged for taunting. Next thing you know there's a fumble, the ball pops up in the air, come down in the hands of Terrill and we've got another touchdown!

McMullen (who?) was signed on Wednesday, I believe, and ended up playing. Bumpus was activated from the practice squad on Saturday and played on Sunday. Schmitt made a couple of plays (again, who?) and Green (you remember him from last year, right?) got a sack or two of the 8 sacks we got on the day!

Crazy things happened all through the game and it came down to the wire. With time almost off the clock, the 49ers had a chance to kick the game winning field goal. And missed. Their kicker hadn't missed in a couple of years - the last time he missed was in a game against Seattle! But he missed. The game went into overtime and the kicker got a chance to redeem himself.

Can't say the Hawks are boring!

Quotes by Mike Holmgren

"I just didn't want to do something bad."

“We just have to regroup. Can't feel sorry for ourselves. Fix the things we can fix, hopefully, and then get ready for the Rams coming in here next week."

"Look, somehow we have to find a way to survive. Not just survive. Win."

"Give the Rams credit. They did some nice things.” - Note to Holmgren: We played the 49ers!
