The media hype leading into this game was the irony of playing the Jets, manned by Brett Favre, in Mike Holmgren's last home game as Coach of the Seattle Seahawks. As if to add to the drama, Seattle was hit with a tremendous winter snowstorm that left enough snow in the stands for game day goers to build snowfans in the stands and to shower Coach with snowballs as he made his victory lap around the field.
The team wanted to give Holmgren a great game in the stadium that has played such an important part in the wins for the team, and they held up their end of the bargain. It was one of those strange games - snow falling in Seattle during the game - and Favre not having his best game by any means.
Quotes by Mike Holmgren
"I’m not going to be here any more in my current mode. I will miss that.""First time in my life that I enjoyed having snowballs thrown at me.”
"I’m not going to get greedy. As I have told you before, I am one of the lucky ones. I will never forget this day, a very special day for me.”
"The Jets are a good football team and they will finish very well this season but today, in this atmosphere, with the weather the way it was, I couldn't be more proud of the football team. It's the best present they could give me for Christmas."
"My only regret is that we couldn't win a few more games this season for [the fans]. We have guys that care. We have good players. We have a good organization. We have great fans. So they'll be bouncing right back up on top again. But I want the players to remember the feelings that we got out of the last couple of weeks of the season."
"There’s a couple things I feel good about. One is how people view the Seahawks now. I feel good about that. This has been a tough season, but I think they believe this is an odd year, and they’re still in there with us, still behind us, and I feel good about that.”
"I hope we got over those early years and they don’t think I’m this crazy person. I would hope they know that I really put the team before myself. We all have egos and I like to win and feel good about it, but what I really loved was the challenge of building something up and making it better. That was my goal, that was the challenge that made me tick.”
