July 13, 1985 Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming
The mud Volcano trail was really neat. We walked up and around several mud pots, through a forest and up to Sour Lake. Saw Black Dragon's Caldron. On the loop back a bison was taking a steam bath right there on the trail!

Kepler Cascades was a short, easy stop worth our time. Old Faithful wasn't our favorite stop but it didn't help that we needed a pack mule to carry all our camera equipment. Rainbow Spring was pretty but we were disappointed that we didn't see any geysers going off while we walked the trail. Morning Glory Pool was really beautiful. It was hot, we were tired, and we really needed that pack mule. The strap on the VCR broke so Bob fixed it with an old Indian trick. (He tied a knot.) We marveled at a tourist carrying a new camcorder that was so small he could hold with one hand. We were ecstatic to finish that trail and sit down for a while. We saw Old Faithful erupt but it wasn't by far her best eruption. She didn't spout very high at all.

Next we took the Firehole Lake Drive wehre we saw a lot of thermal activity, including a small, spouting geyser. The Firehole Falls loop was super, well worth the time. We stopped at Firehole Cascades and marveled at the chipmunks. Bob did some "mountain climbing" and I feared for
his life but he survived!                  [continue reading...]
