July 16, 1985 Yellowstone to Colter Bay, Wyoming I had to be dragged out of bed this morning. It's getting harder every day! We got to the Canyon Cafe just as a bus load of Japanese tourists arrived. The tourist behind us looked at the hash browns and asked if it was fish or meat! We stopped to watch the fish in Yellowstone Lake as we left the park. There were some big trout swimming near the shoreline. Our next stop was Lewis Falls, which were lovely, then Lewis Canyon. Moose Falls was a complete surprise. We saw the sign and pulled over. The falls are part of Crawfish Creek and are small but nice. Next it was on to Colter Bay. Check in time was 4pm so we headed to the Visitor's Center. They had an Indian artist there painting beautiful pictures. I wanted one desperately, but it was megabucks - $150. It's so neat -- Sunset at the Tetons. Absolutely gorgeous. As we left the center, it started raining so we went to the Chuckwagon for lunch. They only had 5 items on the menu and the food was just OK. We drove south, stopping at various overlooks, then went up Signal Mountain. It was too rainy and cloudy for pictures but we scoped out the area for tomorrow. The area is beautiful but the dam needed repairs so they've drained the lake. It's supposed to take 4 years to complete, and it's a disappointment to us that we don't get to see it.
