Jay Schulz took a significant step on the comeback trail last weekend.

The 20-year-old, who broke his ankle in Richmond’s Wizard Cup opener against Collingwood at Telstra Dome on February 18, returned to the playing field for Coburg Tigers reserves in the VFL.

“Jay played the first half of the reserves match last Saturday against Port Melbourne. The match committee felt it was the best way to reintroduce him to the game,” said Richmond’s Football Operations Manager, Paul Armstrong.

“His form was okay and he got through without any problems, but he’s certainly a long way off match fitness, having been out for as long as he has.

“This week, we’re planning for him to play a full game with Coburg on Monday (Anzac Day) in the seniors and then gradually build up his fitness, so that he’s available for (senior) selection in 3-4 weeks time.”
