"All week it was Holmgren vs.
Favre. I think our defense got overlooked."
-- Seattle Seahawks Cortez Kennedy
Seattle Seahawks 27 - Green Bay Packers 7
You don't need MY report!! Most of you saw the game!!! WOOOO HOOOO!!!
Is this an awesome feeling or what?!?!?!
I will admit that I wasn't bubbling over with confidence before the game. I had a good feeling...but I also had the words of every sports personality echoing in my mind
that the Packers were unbeatable at Lambeau Field. I've started watching HBO's weekly football
show and on this week's show, no matter how many positives they came up with for the Seahawks, they still picked
the Packers to win. THEY WERE WRONG!!!
What is the media saying about our game? They say the pivitol moment was the field goal attempt that our rookie,
Lamar King, batted down, followed by Shawn Springs scooping up the ball for a dance into the end zone and the first 7 points on
the board. Yeah OK! I'll give the media that one!
They say Brett Favre had a horrible game. Maybe so, but let's not forget to credit our defense for making it difficult
for him. Brett Favre has had bad days before and still managed to come back to win the game! Our defense didn't allow
him that luxury! Good job boys!!
They said during the game, twice that I recall, that the momentum was shifting to the Packers. I fell for it the first time
until I realized they said it after one good pass by Favre. Come on Monday Night Football crew!!! It takes a LOT more
than that to swing the momentum!! The Seahawks didn't buy it and the Packers didn't either!
They said Lambeau field was too loud, too cold, and too much of an advantage against a travelling team. Look at the stats.
No one beats Green Bay in Green Bay! I guess they forgot to tell the Seahawks!! hee hee! Did you hear how
quiet the stadium became after a great Seahawks play? You could have heard a pin drop, not that my living room was
anything like that!! They could have heard me screaming half way to Green Bay!
They said Holmgren was an awesome coach but he only had a young team to work with. The mighty Packers would be
too much for the underdog Seahawks! Read the quote at the top of the page! Tez summed it up rather well!! And did you
see that little smirk on Holmgren's face from time to time! He can smile without using his lips!!! Gotta love Coach Holmgren!
They said Kitna's top QB ranking in the AFC West was good...but not good enough. They compared him to Favre...and then added
the disclaimer that he wasn't there yet. Oh yeah? Kitna was AWESOME!! OK, so he's not much of a scrambler! That attempt to
run for a first down was pretty ugly! Throughout the game Kitna made good choices, he stayed calm, he maintained his confidence...I
can't say enough about his ability. I truly think we've got a superstar in Jon Kitna!! It's SO exciting!!!
Highlights? How about Chad Brown making 12 tackles, forcing a fumble and making a fumble recovery?! Yeah, everyone is
saying Shawn Springs should have the Defensive Player of the Week title, but in my mind he's got to be sharing it with
Chad Brown. Just awesome plays by both players! Add Tez to the list as well for 3 sacks and 1 forced fumble. It was SO
classy of Tez to let up on the last sack after Favre had been taken out of the game. In fact, let me mention the class we
saw on the field.
When a Packer player, LB Brian Williams, was down with a knee injury, Mayes was right there to look over him to wish him well. Other Seahawks
joined in. As
he was carted off the field, Mayes even hugged him and gave him a kiss on the top of his head! Remember, this is from
a player who thought he had a position with the Packers this season and was cut at the last minute. This is a player who
has received some not-very-nice press from Green Bay about his ego. Did he taunt the fans at the end of his touchdown? Well, yeah! (Wasn't it fun?!)
But he also came back with a very human gesture of caring and that was very cool.
Did you see Holmgren shake hands with Favre before the game? How emotional must that have been?
Did you see Hasselbeck shake hands with Shawn Springs during the game? You've got to admire the respect between players on the field. We'll pass lightly over
the Dotson incident, where he was thrown out of the game for two personal fouls. It was an emotional game and those things happen. I'd like to
say the pros know where to draw the line but it doesn't always work that way.
What is the press not saying? Well, if I were a Packer Fan I'd be HOT that they gave up on the game so soon. When Hasselbeck came into the game,
it was over. You could see it in the players' demeanor. I don't understand why they didn't try to use him as a spark. They gave him wild plays consisting of long passes
that didn't have much chance to be completed by a back-up QB. There were 6 minutes left in the game; that's time enough to at least TRY to tighten the score. I just hope the Hawks NEVER give up in a situation like that.
Fight to the VERY end.
I already mentioned how good Kitna was but I didn't mention Ricky Watters. He found a running game finally! I had a feeling he would break a long one last night.
He ended up with 125 yards on the day.
We weren't without error. Charlie Rogers fumbled twice, once giving Green Bay the ball in the red zone. Luckily for us Shawn Springs intercepted the very next
play in the end zone to avoid disaster. Christian Fauria fumbled one, then stood there looking around before trying to find the missing ball.
I wasn't impressed with that play at all, and again we were fortunate that we batted the ball out of bounds and retained possession. Bellamy's coverage wasn't
the best at times, particularly when the Packers scored their long touchdown. I thought it looked like Bellamy was going for an INT rather than covering the defender,
which is not necessarily a bad thing given Favre's poor passing, but this time it cost us a TD. Reggie Brown had a fumble. Watters' first rushing touchdown was
negated due to an illegal shift by the Seahawks, taking points off the board!! Dawkins came through for us to put the points back but that was the kind of mistake that could
cost a game.
Wasn't it awesome to see the celebration after the TD by Mayes?! I thought he was going to jump into the crowd but then he stopped in his tracks!! FUNNY stuff!! I'm not
sure Holmgren liked it but I enjoyed every bit of it!!
And the Willie Williams INT just prior to the end of the first half was well timed to stop a Packer drive.
Gee...do you think I'm pumped about this game?! I guess I've rambled enough for now!!
Back home we go to face the Bengals who are struggling this season. It should be an easy game but you KNOW the Hawks
have let the easy ones slip before! We can't take this one lightly, but if we come to play the game, the Hawks are
looking at 6-2 and wouldn't that be NICE!!!
