It's a bit hard for me to come up with a special story for this page because I've shared all my special Seahawk stories with you already!

From the thrilling time that Chris Warren winked at me (YES! He did!! It was sooooo cool!!! He looked right at me and winked!!) to the chance meeting of Reggie Brown's father at the train station in St. Louis to the tailgate party at Arrowhead in Kansas City to meeting Chuck Knox at Dave Krieg's induction ceremony. You already know all about DAR-RYLgrams and how Steve Largent stole my heart years ago. You even know how incensed I became when Rick Mirer made all those horrible statements about Seattle fans when he left for the Bears, and you know how personally I took it when Joey Galloway said he'd like to play for another team, and you know that Dave Krieg will always have a special place in my heart and Brian Bosworth will not!!!

So what's left to write about?

The reason I'm here. The reason I'll always be here. To serve our Seahawks.

See, I don't think just anyone can be a fan of a football team. Oh sure, anyone can buy tickets to a game, and anyone can pick up a jersey to wear around the house or a team t-shirt to wear when you work in the yard; anyone can pull on a logo sweatshirt on your way out the door to grab a beer with the guys. But to me, being a fan is so much more.

It's when you can't sleep the night before a game because you know you're going to be there!

Or it's when you wake up Sunday morning at home and you hurry about your chores and feed the family an early lunch and you make sure there are plenty of videos and Nintendo games for the kids ... just so you can wrap yourself up into your boys for the next 3 hours!

Or it's when you put on your team colors on Game Day, even when you're not planning to leave the house and even when you're not expecting company. In fact, if I may be that anti-social, it's hoping you don't have unexpected company because you might have to miss a play ... and that would be horrible!!!!

And in return, you get the most incredible satisfaction from seeing a rookie make it big in the NFL. You get such a rush from a play that works so well that they show the slow motion replay six times! You involve yourself so much into the play that you're pushing defenders out of the way so that the running backs can gain one more yard that just might get us a first down!! It's reaching out, from the comfort of the glider/rocker, if you're still sitting that is, to stretch Joey's arms a little longer so that he can pull in that touchdown reception!!!!

Sometimes it's the agony of defeat, and whoever coined that phrase understated it greatly!! Agony? Sheer torture! It hurts to lose. It hurts when we've played well and just weren't good enough, and it hurts when we played lousy football and didn't stand a chance.

But in it all, there's always that ray of hope that we're gonna make it BIG. Really big!

Stories? This page is about stories? Some of you know that I'm an Aussie Rules fan as well as a Seahawks fan. Go Tiges!! A friend of mine recently sent me an article about a Richmond Tiger footballer who was sidelined last season with an injury. It's a great article even if you've never heard of Aussie Rules! I hope you'll read it. It struck me particularly hard when I got to this part:

"After playing all the time and then going back into the stands, you forget how passionate the supporters can get and how abusive they can be. From the ground, you get the roar of the crowd, but you don't get the individual comments."

How abusive they can be...

Ouch.

We've all seen it before. We've heard it before. Fans love 'em one minute and hate 'em the next. Football is a game of passion. It is a game of emotion. There's a lot at stake for players and fans alike.

But whatever the Seahawks think about me, or about fans in general, I hope it's a lot more of the passion of supporters rather than the abuse of "supporters".

Think about it...

...and then join me in serving our Seahawks.
