The crew was running great today, and everyone seemed to be in good spirits. Some of the crew looked familiar to me from coming in to do their new hire paperwork. Aaron happened to mention that they were moving traffic control signs because we were catching up to the signs. OOPS! MY CAR!!!! Aaron and I jumped back into his pickup (which meant a trek through the high weeds again and the risk of encountering a rattlesnake - in sandals!!!) and zipped down to the other end of the jobsite just in the nick of time. 10 more minutes and they'd have paved my car!!!! I pulled the car over to the side of a country road intersection, got out with my camera and snapped photos. The guys started hamming it up for the camera. One employee drove up pulling the sign trailer and said, "Take my picture, please! I've worked for the company 4 years and I've never been to a Christmas party. No one knows me. Take my picture!!" Nice kid!!! Funny, too! One of the truck drivers hit me up about his per diem pay - I think sometimes they're just happy to see someone from the office, even if I had "office girl" written all over me by the way I was dressed. I was really glad I'd made the decision to drive on up to Leoti even though it was an hour out of my way.
I ended up staying another hour, just standing by myself at the side of the road watching everyone |
