It was only 25 miles from Scott City to Leoti, but it was a long 25 miles. There is some sort of reverse time warp there. You can drive the speed limit but you don't get anywhere!!! The same fields pass by you mile after long mile after gruelling mile! Eventually I pulled up to the jobsite about a mile outside of town and was stopped by a flagger. I was on a two-lane road, one of which was taken up by our equipment. Traffic was led through the other lane by a pilot car. I pulled over onto the shoulder and got out to speak to the flagger. I told her I was from the office and asked who she was. She is a new employee - her second week on the job. Very nice lady. I asked her where I could find Aaron, and she got on the radio and said, "There's a lady visitor here to see Aaron. He needs to come to the East end of the jobsite." I was laughing and I told her that she really knew how to stir things up! I know how the crews talk!!! She got back on the radio and said it again. The voice on the other end of the radio said, "A lady?" She says, "A very important lady." The voice says, "A very important lady?" She said, "Not THAT kind of lady!" I don't know what that meant but I said, "Tell them it's just Becky from the office!" We were both laughing! Nothing like starting and stirring up rumors!!!! |
