Sept. 28, 2007 - Calistoga to San Francisco, CA
Dear Diary,
I awoke to a better day today. It was a bit of a rough night last night - all the different foods I have been trying on this trip caught up with me in a couple of unpleasant manners - but in spite of that we slept well and woke up feeling very refreshed. Thankfully we had a sleep in this morning until 9am, which is just what I needed after this crazy pace we've been trying to keep for over a week now. I've got to say though that there really is something about the whole mineral water thing. My skin is soft from head to toe.

We drove into San Francisco today. We drove through the Sonoma Valley (Can you say wine country?!) and then across the Golden Gate Bridge. For all the hype of the bridge, it wasn't that spectacular, perhaps because it was misty and foggy at that particular moment, perhaps because we'd crossed a lot of other amazing bridges already. We drove around Golden Gate Park looking for the buffalo but didn't find them. The park is enormous - right there in the city. It's kind of nice! Our hotel on Lombard Street (but not the zig zaggy part) is nice enough - very inexpensive for SF and a great deal. I was expecting a dive but really, it's OK. After checking in and meeting up with Pat, we went to Fisherman's Wharf which was not at all what I expected. I liked it a lot but I thought
it would scream San Francisco and it really didn't, at least not to me. It was fun to
walk around there though. We ate at a nice restaurant overlooking the ocean
                  and had fish-n-chips. [continue reading...]
