Sept. 28, 2007 - San Francisco, CA And then ... we went to the footy. The venue was ... interesting. It looked swank from the web site pictures, but that's a bit of smoke and mirrors. Getting there was SCARY. We were in a very seedy part of town, and had to walk down an alley that had people loitering and graffiti all over the walls. I didn't like it one little bit. The only comfort is that there were a LOT of people going to the same venue, so we weren't exactly alone. The venue is an old warehouse in downtown SF that's been turned into a club/meeting area. They had big screen TVs and a gigantic projector screen, with rows of chairs set up in front of the projector screen. I read later that there were 750 people in attendance! I had no idea! I'd have guessed 400 and I thought that was a lot! The chairs were set up in rows like a grade school assembly, which was a little weird. We got there an hour before the game started and it's a good thing. We were able to get seats. However they were grossly uncomfortable, and sitting there 4 hours was quite difficult. My bum is still sore! (Sorry!)
But the game was fantastic. Of course Geelong creamed Port Adelaide and set a record for the greatest margin of victory in an Australian Rules Grand Final! The Port fans started clearing out after the raffle drawing at half time; the Geelong supporters were jumping up and down and going crazy! It was fun to see them so happy!
