Sept. 26, 2007 - Oregon Coast
We started the morning at The Oregon Aquarium, a smallish facility where we saw some great sea creatures. The jellyfish tanks were amazing and beautiful, the sea otters were playful, there were a lot of small sharks, some puffins and other interesting birds. It wasn't what I'd call the world's greatest aquarium but it was certainly entertaining. It's a favorite of Craig's and I suspect he could have stayed there for hours!

From there we drove to a lighthouse trailhead where we had a picnic lunch on the beach of the leftovers from a couple of days ago - jerky, cheese, crackers, bread, jelly and peaches. After eating we took the trail to the top of the cliff where the lighthouse sits. It was a nice hike to a scenic overlook with amazing views.

It would have been nice to have a reduced fee for the elevator ride when it's not sea lion season but I guess the Sea Lion Caves people are out to make a quick buck. They did
warn us before accepting our money that there was no guarantee we'd see the sea
lions today. We did see some swimming wild in the ocean though. We had a
very scenic look back at the lighthouse from the Sea Lion Caves overlook
however, and that was nice. [continue reading...]
