Sept. 25, 2007 - Oregon Coast The rocky Oregon shoreline is amazingly beautiful. I LOVE the ocean! At times we had warm weather and at times we had to be bundled in a warm jacket. We saw a beautiful lighthouse, sand dunes (those were SO weird!), long stretches of beautiful beaches, elk, interesting touristy shops, sea lions, and fishing boats. It was all very fascinating and entertaining. We ate lunch at a seafood restaurant on the water in Newport. I had a fish taco, something I'd never tried before, and some coconut prawns. The taco was very tasty. It was very mild white fish on a bed of cabbage in a light cucumber sauce, wrapped in a soft tortilla shell. Nothing really taco-y about it! I'm not dying to have it again but it was quite good and I'm glad I tried it. The prawns (which I still call shrimp!) were delicious, and the dipping sauce they provided (something Korean?) was excellent. We walked on the beach in front of the hotel for quite some time, bundled up tightly and fighting the ferocious wind! It was c-c-c-c-old. We walked around town a bit, then came back to the beach to watch the sunset. We walked well over 12,000 steps today which is by far the most steps we've walked in a day. I have curvy calves now due to all this walking! It's quite shocking when I shave my legs and see the muscles bulging!!! |
