Sept. 24, 2007 - Seattle, WA to the Oregon Coast
I love the market SO much! I just love it! There's some sort of magic about it. I bought more cheese from Beecher's and more bread from Le Panier, jerky and pepperoni from a meat booth and jelly from the jelly people, and Oh My God peaches from a fruit stand. I picked up a Pike Place Market bag and a Pike Place Market t-shirt. I stopped and gave a sigh at one of my favorite intersections in the market.

When Karyn & Craig showed up, I gave Karyn the grand tour of the pensione, thanked Lindsay again for her hospitality, then we headed out of Seattle. We took the scenic tour (ahem!) out of Seattle to areas I'd never seen. Around 1pm we found a scenic park area and ate a picnic lunch of the food items I'd purchased at the market. Very nice.

Washington meets Oregon at Astoria, a cute city right on the Columbia River where the river meets the ocean. I don't know if we saw "red tide" but there were definitely areas of red water. Very weird. A cruise ship was in port in Astoria. They're everywhere.

It was my brilliant idea to climb to the top of the Astoria Tower by way of winding staircase. Slap
me if I ever come up with THAT idea again! The climb to the top made me dizzy
as well as winded and tired. We made it and the view was spectacular but I will be
sooore tomorrow, and no, it's not any easier going back down! [continue reading...]
