Sept. 24, 2007 - Seattle, WA to the Oregon Coast

After breakfast we scatted. Down to the market we went to have a look around and pick up snacks for the trip. I was surprised to see that most of the market was not set up yet even at 9am. Apparently some of it doesn't get set up until 11am, but even the early birds were still putting out their displays of fruit and vegetables. The Food Network was filming an episode of Glutton for Punishment at the fish market, and it was great fun to watch the host do retake after retake trying to get it right. The plan was to enthusiastically say "Here at Pike Place Fish Market in Seattle it's more than just history..." During his spiel, the fish monger was supposed to throw a 20 pound fish that the host was supposed to catch. He wasn't very good at it, so each time the fish hit him and he was covered in fish goo that had to be wiped off for the next take. One time the fish hit him in the arm and knocked him over, which was hilarious!! He hammed it up, but really, it was crazy!!! Great time watching that filming!!

Since no one was at the market, I took photographs that aren't so easy to get when the market is bustling. I also talked with some vendors and that was really quite enjoyable. They are SO nice. They are really proud of their wares and seem more than happy to visit with people about them. I
went back to the meat market and thanked them for the terrific meats we'd purchased
on Saturday. The owner just beamed and asked me what I'd bought, wanting to
know what was so good it brought me back. It left me feeling terrific and I know it
put a smile on his face, too! He was very nice. [continue reading...]
