St Kilda 13.10.88 - Richmond 11.11.77
Jay Schulz cannot catch a break. He suffered another serious injury in this week's game that will keep him out of the game for up to 8 weeks. He has damanged the AC joint in his left shoulder. Also struck by injury is Will Thursfield who will go in for a total knee reconstruction.

Those have to be devastating and discouraging losses for our Tigers given the slow start to this season. Any bit of negativity after last week's rout is painful, and yet from all indications we made a terrific turn around in one short week!

Once again I didn't get to hear the game because it was a night game, thus it was aired in the middle of my night here in the US. But I'm pleased to hear positive reports about it, and I'm anxious to see how we manage our next round.

I'm a bit bummed though, because I won't get to catch a live game until mid-May this year. That's an awfully long time to have to wait for a live game. It's only Round 2 and already I really miss the action of hearing it live on the Internet. I don't know how I'll make it so many rounds into the season without live action. Do I dare pull an all-nighter? I'm considering it!! I need my footy!

Hi Becky,
Well, what an eventful round! I still can't seem to tip more than 50%. I am paying for my loyalty to Richmond.

I was far more pleased with the Tigers exhibition in Rd 2 against St Kilda. I was actually at the game and it was very enjoyable, even though we lost. The reaction of the supporters and the way they got behind the team for the whole game was also great to see. Too often we have turned ugly when the players don't do so well.

Seeing Schulz injured, he'll be out for at least 8 weeks by the sound of it and poor Will Thursfield do his knee (medial and anterior cruciate) that's his season, was not so good. We'll struggle on and it will give two youngsters a chance to prove themselves and because Thursfield is out for the season a rookie can be elevated onto the senior list.

I had a slight problem trying to pick a player for the week, not because like last week I struggled to find a decent one, but because 3 players really stood up and put themselves forward. Young Andrew Raines, son of Geoff, was fantastic in the backline, he's tough, quick, good disposal and not afraid to back himself, courageous too and he shut down the dangerous and annoying Stephen Milne. Daniel Jackson, the supporters have been waiting for him to have a breakout game for a couple of seasons and Friday night was it, he came into the side when Stafford didn't come up from a calf injury, slotted into full forward, had Steven Baker beaten all ends up and kicked 2 goals. Then there was Patrick Bowden, younger brother of Joel, he played well the previous week, but this was one out of the box, 3 goals, a 4 quarter effort and probably his best game at this level. In the end I decided to go with Paddy.
