St Kilda V Richmond
Telstra Dome Round 4

By Chris Greenway

For the second week in a row most of the Richmond related news centred on Matthew Richardson's cheekbone. The club insisted that he would line up on Monday, the media continued to wonder if he would, should or could. Sam Newman even performed his weekly Footy Show skit as a slightly shop soiled Richo. There was also some Rodan news and for once it didn't mention anything about his Fijian origins, but instead concentrated on his value and skills. There was an interview with Greg Stafford where a commentator mentioned that he would be a useful player for a ruckman to have at his feet. Staff agreed saying that he had a very low centre of gravity, then joked that being 3'2" helped with that. They're starting to realize that D-Rod is more than just novelty value. Despite St Kilda's poor record and the fact that Richmond were going for 3 in a row, a spot in the top 4 and it was Stafford's 150th game they started equal favourite. The presence of their goal-kicking captain Aaron Hamill probably helped this perception.

As predicted Richo did line up for the Tigers in the forward half of the ground, Fleming retained his spot and King was dropped to make way for Richardson. The game was even for the first 15 minutes of the game then Richmond hit the accelerator and skipped clear. Coughlan was on fire and Rodan also had one. Rodan was dangerous all day, he kicked two goals and played in a number of positions, often helping Coughlan, Johnson and Campbell out in the centre. It's great just to watch the kid grab the ball and go tearing down the ground bouncing it, sticking his tongue out like a Maori Tiki doll.

For a four-quarter effort and two nice goals Coughlan was best on ground with Bowden, Tivendale, Stafford, Houlihan and Rodan all contributing solidly. Special mention to Matthew Rogers for shutting St Kilda goal kicking sensation; Stephen Milne.

Bring on Hawthorn and let's see how good we really are.
