Kayne Pettifer
By Chris Greenway
There is really only one word that can describe number 8 for Richmind. Disappointing. Kayne was taken in the top 10 in the draft some years ago, as he was from Kyabram he was even given number 8, previously worn by the great Dick Clay also from Kyabram.
He actually looked a likely type in his first year, didn't play a lot of games, but few first year recruits do, in the few games he did play he had a knack of slipping his opponent, his disposal was damaging and he knew where the goals were.
Unfortunately he has not developed as hoped. For the past two seasons he has lacked the physical, mental and emotional maturity required to play senior AFL football. He doesn't have the build to play key position, he often lets his emotions get the better of him and he seems to have difficulty with the concept that football is a team game.
Kayne was lucky not to be delisted at the end of last season. He has not yet played a senior game this season. In the pre season his body looked to have matured and he had some encouraging passages of play, but he has been unable to sustain that for any length of time. Time is fast running out for Kayne, if he can't make the grade this season then someone else will be wearing number 8 next season.
