Chris Greenway's Footy Commentary!

Rd 6 Richmond vs Sydney

3. Brett Deledio: again started slowly, but was soon in top form. Not as good as the previous week, but still valuable particularly when he moved forward and took a few marks up there.

8. Jack Riewoldt: really worked hard and did it for the whole 4 quarters, kicked a couple of goals and would have been one of the best on the day, but for one shocking lapse in the last quarter when a complete lack of awareness saw him run down and dispossessed. The resulting turnover saw Sydney kick a goal that gave them the ascendancy. If Jack had kicked that goal or given it to Richo the Tigers would have levelled the score and may very well have used the momentum to win the game.

11. Joel Bowden: silky smooth disposal and a clear head saw him again be one of the sides best defenders.

12. Matthew Richardson: carried an injury concern up to Sydney and should not have played, spent more time on the sidelines than on the ground and was affected by the injury when he was on. The news this week that he has a serious hamstring injury that may very well end his career should have been no shock. Why the Richmond medical staff insist on letting injured players play I do not know. When the coaching staff depart at the end of the season they should take the medicos with them, because they are at best negligent.

13. Jordan McMahon: when Richmond were pressing he suddenly appeared, the rest of the time he was invisible. The Tigers are not good enough to carry a front runner like McMahon.

14. Dean Polo: was beaten by Michael O’Loughlin on the day.

16. Luke McGuane: Barry Hall proved too strong for him and things did not get better when he was taken from the ground with an injury in the 3rd quarter only to return in the last obviously hampered by the injury.

17. Chris Newman: as captain simply has to do more.

18. Alex Rance: runs around, tackled hard, quick for his size and kicking was on the up. Hope it continues.

20. Mitch Morton: started in defence (?!) and was ineffective, didn’t do much more when moved forward. Has to lift.

21. Shane Tuck: got some really nice clearances and is appreciating the helping hand that Mark Coughlan provides.

22. Jarrad Oakley-Nicholls: actually turning into a decent player, hopefully a late bloomer.

23. Daniel Jackson: kept dual Brownlow medallist Adam Goodes quiet and won plenty of the ball himself, one of the Tigers best.

24. Mark Coughlan: the comeback continues well, the contested ball stats have gone up since he returned, it is not a coincidence.

26. Adam Pattison: beaten in the ruck and can’t seem to find a spot anywhere else. Serious doubts about him.

30. Richard Tambling: best on ground for Richmond. Ran hard and tackled vigorously all game, never stopped presenting or trying and it paid off for him.

35. Matt White: flashed in and out, needs to impose himself on the game and use his pace.

38. Robin Nahas: a winner from the rookie system. Tackles very well for a player of his size, quick and smart, always lively, once his radar around goals kicks in he’s going to be a nightmare for opposing defences.

40. Kelvin Moore: interchanged with Polo and McGuane of O’Loughlin and Hall and didn’t disgrace himself on either. Shame the Tigers didn’t have 2 of him.

41. Nathan Foley: finding it hard to be the hardest tagged player, gets a lot of the ball, but turns it over too often.

42. Andrew Collins: another young Tiger turning into a real player. I like this kid and he’s one to watch. The big question is why it took so long to play him?

44. Angus Graham: starting to find his feet. Won most of the ruck in the middle and was good around the ground, can take a big mark in the forward line and managed a couple of handy goals.
