Seasons & Summaries
One Knee Equals Two Feet by John Madden Kenny Easley of the Seahawks is supposed to be the best strong safety now. All-Pro four consecutive seasons.
Source: Seahawks 10 Year Anniversary book
In 1984, he did even more. Despite playing nearly half the season with one hand heavily wrapped to protect a broken finger, Easley led the league in interceptions with 10. He also averaged more than 12 yards as an emergency punt returner, a torturous job for which he volunteered. He led a Seattle defense that led the league in interceptions, fumble recoveries and touchdowns, and he also developed the loudest footsteps in football. He demonstrated with a pair of lights-out tackles in the open field against Miami during the playoffs.
Knox, marveling at all he saw Easley do, called it "the greatest season by a defensive back that I've seen in 31 years of coaching." The Defensive Player of the Year award certified that endorsement and was followed by Easley's unanimous selection for a third straight Pro Bowl.
