Many of us remember a time when a ticket to a Sunday afternoon battle was as coveted as a parking pass on Pill Hill, and season ticket holders were consistently mobbed by crazed unfortunate Hawk fans offering all but their souls for a 300-level ticket. During the hey-day of Hawkomania, just being a part of the Kingdome 12th man assault on visiting teams brought about a heavenly after-effect that lasted nearly to the following Sunday...Not any more. I had the opportunity to sit in the endzone, 14 rows back during the Denver game, and was stricken with disbelief by the noise, or lack there of, during crucial periods of the contest. At one point, when the Swaybacks had the ball in their own end of the field, I turned to the masses behind me, lifting my hands to the roof, screaming accusations, challenging them to turn it up a notch in an attempt to bring about the deafening roar that was responsible for the "Too Loud" rule implemented in the "80's.It worked. Elway's fumble was followed by a sack, and flickers of yesteryear began to show themselves...if only briefly. Having been a Hawks fan since their inception into the league, I know as well as the next die-hard fan that this is by far-and-away the best team ever assembled under the lights of the Kingdome. What I know, what many fans don't know, (or if they do they have a strange way of expressing it), is that this team was a handful of plays away from being 7-1. Throw out the "Oatmeal Bowl" in Kansas City, and we could have been leading the division, if not the entire League in wins and losses. As far as that goes, this team could have easily gone 7-1 over the remaining 8 games, and put themselves in a position to get home field in the first round of the playoffs. Seattle fans have been spoiled by successful seasons from the other sports arenas, and have lost sight of what it means to be a true fan. One glimpse at the regular sell-out following that has ridden the coat-tails of the Packers should be enough to shame even the stoutest of Hawk followers. Decades they went, constantly being humbled by the powerhouse teams of the 70's and 80's, and still they came...Still they supported their team. It paid off in the end. It can here too. It's enough to make a grown Beaver fan weep. I'm with you. One of the elements that strikes fear into the hearts of Kingdome "guests" is the thought of trying to audible in an environment where the decible level closely resembles that of a testing room for a mach 3 jet engine. Believe. Support. And soon, very soon, we will be hosting an NFL Superpower of our own on Sunday afternoons...By the way, does anybody have any 300 level tickets they wont be needing? I have this Microsoft stock, and.....
