WEEK BY WEEK
With Mike Holmgren

Preseason Week 1: "Mike Holmgren ... He doesn't look happy but I'm sure he is." -- Pat Summerall, following a touchdown by the Seahawks

Preseason Week 2: "Seneca comes in and, bless his heart, gives us a spark." -- Coach Mike Holmgren

Preseason Week 3: "It's encouraging to me after last week, because we didn't play real hard last week." -- Coach Mike Holmgren

Seahawks 26 - Chargers 20 (Pre-season)

"They're playing pretty hard. It's encouraging to me after last week, because we didn't play real hard last week...we also did three of the dumbest things I've ever seen on a football field." " -- Mike Holmgren

OK, we made some mistakes. No denying that. BUt this was an exciting pre-season football game!! You've got to love a defense that makes bit plays, and you've got to love them even more when it happens on the first drive of the game! Ken Lucas would have had a touchdown with his interception had it not been for a flag on the play, and there's nothing like firing up the players, coaches and fans with a big play like that right out of the shoot!

Our defense took advantage of the Chargers' errors and won this game for us. The Lucas interception set us up for the touchdown. The blocked field goal run back for a touchdown by Simmons accounted for our second touchdown. (Is he incredible or what?!) And the interception by Trufant accounted for our final touchdown. What a day for the defense of the Seattle Seahawks!!

As for the offense, we put up some good numbers but I have some concerns. I'd sure like to see the long passes connect to prove we have a legitimate deep threat. Knowing Hass has the arm to throw deep is somewhat of a threat, but knowing that he can hit the receivers is quite another. I hope we can capitalize on those plays when regular season arrives.

In the second half, we went for it on 4th and inches at the 10 yard line. Of course in regular season we probably would have gone for a field goal but since it's preseason we can afford to live dangerously. It's a call I agree with. I think it would have done a lot for our confidence had we made it.

The interception and fumbles bother me a little bit. Again, we did enough to win the game when our starters were on the field but we made some pretty big mistakes that could have had devastating effects.

Mack Strong never ceases to amaze me. He runs with such power. I love watching him on the field and he's been so reliable for us through the years. An extraordinary athlete who rarely gets the recognition he deserves.

Overall I think we have a LOT to be proud of! We've got some fine tuning to do but we're headed the right direction!!

As always, your comments are welcome! Send them to me and I'll post them here!

Sounded like domination. The score is NOT an indication. We SPANKED them in the first half on BOTH SIDES of the ball...

Why so close? Their third string QB is Doug Flutie...'nuff said?

Check flight info for JACKSONVILLE, BECKY!!!!!!

We are the REAL DEAL!!!!

GO SEAHAWKS!!!!!!!!!
