Adelaide 9.12.66 - Richmond 10.9.69
"There is a god and he barracks for Richmond!!!"
That's a direct quote from the audio feed of 3AW this weekend during the game!!!
It's days later as I write and I still haven't come down from the high of this game!! Tambling kicked the first goal and the announcers said, "The Tigers are alive!" and we remained alive for four quarters! WOOT!
I didn't know if I would live through the final 4 1/2 minutes of play! Those few minutes seemed to last an eternity! The game was over around 1:30am here in the US and I was wound for sound! Sleep? Bah! I was jumping for joy!
Throughout the game the announcers kept saying that this would be quite an upset for the premiership favorite Adelaide Crows! They said we'd have to play and ugly game and hope for the best. Well hats off to Terry Wallace for putting together a game plan that worked!!! That's the name of the game, and better an ugly win than an ugly loss!

We sure did, Becky! I haven't checked yet, but I bet there will be loads of people getting into the Tigers for playing 'ugly' football, but I don't care! You thought it was a long 4.5 minutes and you were listening to it, Becky I was there! I hugged another bloke today, we were both just so totally stoked. That's the first time since 1999. Footy record $3.50, Coke $4.00. membership $280, the look of disbelief on the faces of the arrogant Adelaide supporters at the end of the match....priceless.
It was awesome and so far the win of the season.

Hey Becky,
I cannot believe that we won. You know, Richmond were at $5.35 in betting to win. Thats how much of a chance people gave us, including myself. 50% credit must go to the coach for planning this out during the week. It was ugly, the ugliest game i have seen in my entire life and i hope i never see anything like this again, but it is a win against the premiership favourites and i'll take that anyday. And 50%, if not more must go to the players who for once actually implemented the game plan to perfection. Some of the efforts by individuals today was outstanding. Andrew Raines held the best player of this century to four touches. FOUR TOUCHES!!! Andy Kellaway gave his absoloute all again today and I must say he is my most admired player. The way he puts his body on the line time and time again is outstanding. If only ever Tiger had his courage and dedication. Troy Simmonds player a fantastic game today. He was everywhere. He is really showing his true value this year and i am glad. Kayne Pettifer. Two and a half years ago I never thought that I'd say this - give this guy a medal. He showed today what he is capable of. I know he took fifteen marks and I know he had twenty kicks but the one play that really made me applaud him was when he backed into a pack and brought the ball to the ground. My biggest critisism of him has been his seemingly lack of courage but he showed me and all others today, what a fine player he has become. Good on you!!! Tivo appeared to have a quiet game but he was actually tagging Goodwin who has been the most dominant player this year and today he was not dominant at all. And Joel Bowden. His stats tell a false story. They were massive today due to Richmonds keepings off game plan but don't let that make you think he didnt play well. He made some real important spoils today and his leadership in the backline and his courage on many occasions made it a 200th game to remember. And all this with a real inexperienced squad. I can think of no one today who had a disappointing game even though some didnt shine. I am still excited. So excited that I am in fact writing this at twenty minutes to midnight. But now, we must set ourselves for Geelong. They played horrendous tonight, but let me tell you, they wont let that happen again so we will really be in for a tough one. We nearly beat them last year down there and I believe that if we need motivation, it should be that fact the we lost to them by a point in Wayne Campbells last game, and we should do it for Wayne, be it nine months too late.
Oh well, i am gonna go now and try and sleep but i doubt i can.
Heres to next week!

Subject: Keeping Off Kings"
Hi again Becky,
What did you think of the game? The last few minutes were a bit of a nail biter weren't they! What did you think of Richmond's keeping off tactics? I've heard them being described as the keeping off kings. I suppose you know Richmond took a record number of marks for an AFL match - all that chipping the ball around to one another. I think it was a case of Adelaide just being out coached, because their almost certainly a better team than Richmond (as much as I hate to say that). I even heard the commentators doing the TV call describe it as a 'watershed' match. So we're 4 and 4 now, which I guess isn't too bad.
Have something to say? Please e-mail me! I'd love to hear from you! Please be sure to reference the Richmond Tigers in the subject line for priority mail handling! THANK YOU!
