Richmond 12.14.86 - Carlton 14.9.93

Grumble, grumble, grumble. Boo. Hiss.

What has happened to my beloved Richmond Tigers???? Remember a few weeks ago when I was flying high because we were in the Top 4??? The lows aren't nearly as much fun!

I was really, really tired when the game came on because this is the weekend of Salina's Smoky Hill River Festival. I'd been to the festival Thursday night and most of the day Friday, then came home to catch the 11:10 pm bounce. I knew it would have to be a thriller if I had any chance of staying up till the final siren.

I had the Internet audio feed of 3AW, thinking if anyone could keep me charged for the game it would be Rex Hunt! :-)

Unfortunately I never got the impression the Tigers were there to play. Yes, I realize the wind, described as a gale, was at Carlton's advantage in the first quarter, however it was suggested they should kick at least 5 goals in the first quarter, and we held them to 3. Not only did we hold them to 3, we kicked 2 ourselves against the odds! I saw that as encouraging. The disappointing part was when we got the favour of the wind in the second quarter and didn't take advantage of it. We took the lead a few times and then handed it back, but even when we were ahead I never felt the confidence of our team. Our accuracy was awful and we didn't seem to jell as a team.

Richo took quite a bagging from the announcers on the radio call. A couple of times I gasped at the comments that were made about his leadership, or lack thereof. His posture and behavior were criticized quite openly and often, and I for one was glad I didn't have the video to go with the audio!

So the Tiges have lost again. It's not looking good for the season as we have some tough games coming up. We've got a week off to try to figure things out, then we're back in the thick of it. I'm still behind you, Tigers! Gooooooo Richmond!!!
