A CHIP OFF THE OLD BLOCK

A few years back Richmond took a gamble and drafted a young indigenous player by the name of Andrew Krakouer. If the Tigers wanted the freakishly skilled young man they needed to draft him a year earlier than would have been expected.

Andy's father Jim, was a Kangaroos legend, and Andy was on their radar, but a year after Richmond selected him. His first season was encouraging, he was dangerous and crumbed well, kicked extraordinary goals. As the seasons went on he got games, but developed a frustrating habit of tantalising by kicking a magical goal and then going missing for large chunks of the game.

It appeared only 3 weeks ago that patience had finally run out. Instead of being given the week off during the half seasons break Krakouer was banished to Coburg to play for the affiliate, that performance saw him picked for the Collingwood game.

The wet MCG suited Andy down to the ground and he put the Pies to the sword, picking up possessions at will, kicking goals and setting his team mates up. As he had done this before on wet days, no one got too excited. The game against Port was the acid test.

Andy passed it with flying colours. He kicked 2 awesome, opportunistic goals, never gave his opponent a moment's rest and set his team mates up for other majors. This was a real four quarter effort and Krak's elusive skills were spot on. If he keeps this up Richmond have another forward option to complement the talls, the new, improved Kayne Pettifer and the mercurial Nathan Brown.
