Okay, maybe these aren't really 'stats'!

You can get statistics from any number of commercial NFL sites! The stats that I like are the personal tidbits you occasionally hear about players that make them seem 'real'...that give them personality!!

Some of the information on this page comes from the 1977 Media Guide (which has been most entertaining!) Some of it comes from my on-line friend, Marolyn, who sent me a book commemorating the 10th anniversary of the Seahawks! (Thanks, Marolyn!) Some of the stuff comes from the older Inside the Seahawks newspapers. And most of the recent stuff comes from newspaper articles or magazines! Feel free to send me things you've found that fit into the theme of this page! Enjoy!

Who is ...
the Quiet Storm?
John L. Williams. Quiet, serious and a man of his word. Instead of talking about his talents, he prefers to prove them on the field. (Sounds like Jon Kitna!)

What is ...
"a meal"?
To Steve Preece, his game day meal was three candy bars. One at 10, one at 11, and one at noon!

What is ...
Seahawk 1?
The Alaska Airlines plane that was painted with the Seahawks logo and stripes! It was used for commercial flights as well as Seahawks flights and had brass nameplates with names and jersey numbers of the players' favorite places to sit in flight! It was such an attraction that parents would lift their children up to be able to see it passing by!

What is ...
Big Ben?
That's the play designed for the Hail Mary, when Easley, with his leaping ability, is the primary receiver. If he can't catch the ball, he tries to tip it to another receiver in the end zone!

What is ...
Bruiser?
Yes, Steve Broussard. But also...a rubber mask of a big, mean looking player in a Seahawks helmet that sold for $15. It was introduced for fans to wear to the Seahawks-Raiders game in 1986.

Steve
Largent
Largent spent five days in Oct. 98 campaigning for 12 Republican candidates in 10 states. ``I'm a good team player,'' he explains. ``The saying is, 'To whom much is given, much is required.' I take that saying seriously.''
Our
Sponsors
For every field goal scored by Seahawks' kicker Todd Peterson, Doubletree will donate $250 to the King County Boys and Girls Clubs.
Offensive
Line
The Seahawks offensive line donates $50 for every first down and $250 for every touchdown (plus bonuses for yards gained) to the Evergreen Hospital. The money will be used to renovate the children's playroom! VERY COOL!

Warren Moon
( and more)
Moon passed for 409 yards and five touchdowns, in a 45-34 victory over Oakland. It was the seventh 400-yard passing game of his NFL career, tying Joe Montana for second place behind Dan Marino's 13!
Warren Moon
(more)
Not that Moon is old or anything, but the Los Angeles native was playing football in Seattle before the Seahawks -- and the franchise began in 1976. Moon quarterbacked the Washington Huskies from 1974-76, capping his career with a Rose Bowl victory!
Warren MoonWith his 1-yard plunge against Indianapolis in Week 3, Moon, age 40, became the oldest player to score a touchdown in the NFL. He surpassed Zeke Bratkowski - father of Seahawk offensive coordinator, Bob - who in 1971 scored a touchdown for Green Bay 10 days short of turning 40.
Kevin MawaeHis physique made the NFL Strength Team in the October '97 issue of Muscle & Fitness Magazine! Also mentioned were Rick Tuten, Michael Sinclair and former Seahawk Andy Heck!
Grant WilliamsNicknamed 'Big Country', Williams reports that he has a sleeve length of 43"! He says that gives him a 'seven foot wingspan'!!!!!
Worm Belt?!?Yes! The Worm Belt! This is the 'award' given to the defensive lineman who spends the most time on the ground, digging for worms!! Let's hope we can give back the award to it's owner, McCrary, after the Baltimore game!
Todd Peterson Just finished reading a newspaper article about the Young Life program Peterson and his wife started. It's an outreach program for high school kids. Very cool, Todd. WAY TO GO!!! I have great respect for you!
Chris Warren In 1995, Chris scored on 15 touchdown plays! In 1996, he scored on......FIVE.....?? (That's what I read.....)
John Boy??? "With sandy hair and a shy smile, ???? could be - and sometimes was - mistaken for Richard Thomas, the folksy John Boy of television's "The Waltons." (Quoting the anniversary book.) Who was this mystery Seahawk player? Jim Zorn!!! *laughing*
The Fan!! No wonder Jersey #12 was retired!!! In the first year of existence, season ticket sales were stopped 27 days after the box office was opened after reaching the cutoff of 59,000 tickets sold!!
No. 1 Who was the first player to become a Seahawk?? Ex-husky Dave Williams! He was a football/track star from Tacoma's Lincoln High School as well as St. Louis' No. 1 draft choice from the University of Washington in 1967!
Seahawks How did we get our name??? It was suggested by the fans! Over 20,000 entries were accepted, of which 151 entrants suggested the name "Seahawks!"
The Kingdome Construction began on the Kingdome on November 2, 1972 at a cost of $67 million.
Jack Patera "If we had gotten one outstanding player he wouldn't have as much impact as five good football players," said Patera regarding the 1977 draft! Fascinating, huh?!?!?
Joe Cain He's baaaaack!! He rejoins five of his former teammates. Who are they? Brian Blades, Cortez Kennedy, Chris Warren, Michael Sinclair and Rick Tuten!
Jon Kitna What can I say?! This guy's tough!! I'm hopeful we'll be hearing a lot about him in years to come! But for now here's a 'stat'...what do they call Jon in the World League? The Magic Dragon!!!
World League Seahawks in the World League??? YES! QB Jon Kitna and WR Grayson Shillingford will play for the Barcelona Dragons. LBs Eric Unverzagt and James Logan will play for the Scottish Claymores, and OL Greg Bloedorn will join the Rhine Fire.
Chad Brown Chad owns the biggest snake farm in the country!!
Ummmm...I won't be visiting it anytime soon!!!!! *squirming*
Eric Unverzagt Nicknamed Unvy which means "not a care in the world"! I love it!
Good luck in the World League, Unvy! : -)
Joey Galloway This is incredible! In his rookie year, Joey broke Steve Largent's record for rookie receptions in 14 games, and Daryl Turner's yardage in just 11 games!
Cortez Kennedy (aka: Big Dawg!) Tez has played in the last six Pro Bowl games, a franchise record!
Brian Blades The oldest player on the Seahawk team this past year!
(Honor previously held by the Great Joe Nash who, by the way, resigned with us mid-season!)
Sam Adams Rated the second best shot putter in the nation in high school! His father played for the New England Patriots (1972-80) and for the New Orleans Saints (1981)!
Christian Fauria Played only one season of basketball in college and was named MVP! He averaged 16 points and 13 rebounds per game! (His name is pronounced: four-E-aye)
Robb Thomas He's no longer a Seahawk but he's on my page anyway for two reasons! #1 - I liked him! #2 - It was his lifelong dream to have the opportunity to play for the Seahawks!! My kind of guy! Good luck in your future endeavors, Robb!
Lamar Smith What makes Lamar so cool? Okay, okay...besides his great running abilities???
He and I share the same birth date -- November 29!! (Now now, no need to compare years!)
Rick Mirer When he was 11 years old, he won the "Punt, Pass and Kick Competition"!! That's really cool!!!!!! Way to go, Rick, and best of luck to you in the coming season!
Eddie Goines "...I'm going to war and competing for a job every day..." Sounds to me like he WANTS to be a Seahawk! [Sidenote: injured; out for the '96 season; bummer]
Seahawk Legend
Steve Largent
Voted one of the 50 Most Beautiful People in the World by People Magazine. Just one more of the MANY accomplishments of this wonderfully talented Seattle Seahawk Receiver!
Former Seahawk
Derrick Fenner
I don't know why I want him on this page, but I ALWAYS liked the guy, even though he's now a Raider. (Ouch...it hurts to say THAT word here...!) I like his #44 story...he met with adversity and rose above it!
Ex-Seahawk
Brian Bosworth
Get this: When asked in an interview if he had anything to say to Seahawk fans, he said, "I wish I was still playing. It would have been 10 years and we'd have had two Superbowl Rings." Quite an ego! Unbelievable.....
