Almost Hall of Fame

"We putzed it around early, but then we got going and that's a
good thing. That's almost a sign that we have matured a little
bit as an offensive team."
-- Coach Mike Holmgren

"He did OK. I'll say
what I said before, Walter Jones is a great player. But yesterday, he was good. In five weeks, he'll be great every week."
-- Coach Mike Holmgren

"Personally, I think we need to win a couple more games. I don't think one win means everybody's going
to fall in front of our feet."
-- Itula Mili

"Let's keep things in perspective. Really you're judged not on one game, but what (on) happens in the season." -- Coach
Mike Holmgren

"Seventeen years,
that's quite a while. I
just think because of that, people are
getting excited about it. I know my friends and everyone in my circle, they're getting excited about what's going to happen this year.
-- Mack Strong, talking about our first
opening day victory

"Obviously they have
a great baseball team here, but there's also going to be a great football team.
Hopefully (the fans) spread the love
around.
-- Defensive tackle Norman Hand

"You've got to preface all statements
by saying it's one
game. We're not going to go crazy patting ourselves on the back, but it was a good start.
It was a great game to build on."
-- Linebacker Chad Brown

"It's a different attitude and a different focus." -- Chad Brown

    Week 1:
    Seattle 27 - New Orleans 10

WE WON!! What a terrific way to start the season! I thought we were sluggish in the first quarter but all is forgiven as we found our game and rolled on to victory! It feels GOOD!

All that hype about Ken Hamlin? Bring it on!! Everything they said about this hard hitter is true! I expected cartoon bubbles to appear all over the television screen!

I'll tell you who else impressed me: Reggie Tongue. He was especially amazing on the blitz in the second quarter when he had to run a long way around to get it but he got there and the play resulted in a 9 yard loss! Woo! That was fun!

I'll let the rest of you cover the game in detail (see below) because I have a few comments to make from observations around the league! Was that game winning catch by Ricky Proehl awesome or what?! Ohhhh, I loved it! Green Bay lost! Pardon my giggles, Green Bay fans! :-) Can you believe that Kansas City thought about not signing Priest Holmes? I could almost be a Chiefs fan just for Holmes!

I heard a lot of talk about Kurt Warner and the struggles he's having, and one quote in particular stood out to me. As they were criticizing him, one announcer said, "It's not what you did yesterday. It's what you do today." In the words of Moses, Ring!...ring!...Mike Holmgren? Mike Holmgren? Please pick up the white courtesy phone.

Speaking of Coach Holmgren, did you see the shirt he was wearing? I want one! I went to Seahawks.com after the game to see if I could get one but they're not for sale on the site. They do have, however, a large selection of skanky clothing for female fans. Sorry guys, but most of us won't look like Sea Gals in those teeny tiny short shorts. One could only wish...

Did any of you have the opportunity to watch a game that was televised in HDTV? OH...MY...GOSH!!!!! I was fortunate enough to see the Chiefs game on a big screen television in high definition video. It was like I was there. When they showed a close-up, I swear I could smell the sweat on the players! I could see individual pores on their faces -- and other things that weren't desirable to see! It was the most amazing thing. I hope you all get the chance to see some games on HDTV this season.

    Game one thoughts.....
Posted by MOSES on 9/7/2003, 8:55 pm

So, THIS is what's it's like to see a well played game? Any chances on getting handles installed on the footballs for next week? I guess I am being real picky here. I mean, Offensively, defensively, even the special teams... GRADE A!!!!!!

So THAT is why Ray Rhodes wanted Antonio Cochran so badly? #78 was EVERYWHERE!

If D-Jack and K-Rob would have actually CAUGHT THE BALL in the first quarter, this one might have been over by the half.

I don't care WHAT Hasselbeck's stats look like on paper from this game.... He looked like a REAL LEADER out there.

Wonder who took Alexander's dancing shoes? Whoever did can burn them . He doesn't EVER need them again.

So THAT is why Ken Hamlin is called "THE HAMMER"!! What a hit. I watched it 20 times afterward. It STILL rises me out of my seat.

Marcus "You can't handle the" Trufant looked great. When Horn caught his ONLY TD and posed, I would have (quite politely) shown him the scoreboard...

At times, it looked like we had 15 guys on defense out there with all of that gang tackling. They played with GREAT enthusiasm.

If they play this well NEXT WEEK, I doubt there will be many available tickets in Seattle for the NEXT HOME GAME!!!

    P.S.

No serious injuries to any of our players. What a great day for our Seahawks. Bring on those Cardinals! GO SEAHAWKS!!!!!!

    Getting ready to score.....again!!!

    We are Walk'n The Talk!!!!!
    WAAAZOOOOOO!!!!!
    GO YOU SEAHAWKS!!!!!!

    MOSES PREDICTS GAME ONE!!!!!!!
Posted by MOSES on 9/3/2003, 7:48 pm

HAIL TO THEE, O SEAHAWK FANS!!!!! IT IS I, MOSES, HERE TO PREDICT THE SEAHAWK/ ain’t GAME!!!!!!

LAST WEEK: THERE WAS NO LAST WEEK! Optimism abounds! We are 0-0!!!!

Well, what a difference an off-season makes! The makeup of our beloved Seahawks has truly gone through a face-lift..

( ring…..ring….. Joan Rivers ??? Joan Rivers ??? Please pick up the white courtesy phone….)

Here is the “Reader’s Digest” version of the offseason.

Holmgren turns in everything but head coaching job.
    All defensive coaches fired.
Ray Rhodes hired as defensive coordinator.
Hugh Douglas comes to Seattle…. And goes to Jacksonville.
Vonnie Holliday comes to Seattle…. And goes to Kansas City.
Kwamie Lassiter comes to Seattle…. And falls of the face of the Earth!
Seahawks sign a punter (they later cut), a safety (who loses job to a rookie), and an OL (they also cut).
Seahawks draft a CB, a safety, and an OT on day one, Seahawks draft a QB, an MLB, a DT, trade for a DT, and a kicker on day two.
Seahawks snatch Godfrey from “have to cut due to money” land.
Seahawks cut roster down including placing ½ the D-line on IR.

    BUT……..

ENOUGH OFFSEASON!!!! IT IS TIME FOR “THE” SEASON!!!

Few teams come into this year with so many expectations as the Seahawks. The easy schedule (lowest winning percentage of opponents in the NFL), the high powered offense (#1 the last 6 games of last year), and winners of their last three last year have put “Great Expectations” on the shoulders of Holmgren and the boys.

( ring…..ring….. Charles Dickens??? Charles Dickens ??? Please pick up the white courtesy phone….)

    BUT……..

The preseason gods were not very forgiving to the Seahawks.

The preseason injury bug has bitten Shawn Springs sidelining him for 8 weeks. The “stupid move” bug apparently bit RT Chris Terry, and he will be out for a spell as well for thinking he is above the NFL drug policy.

These players will be SORELY missed these first few games…

    BUT……..

You can SCRATCH WALTER JONES OFF THAT LIST!!!

Walter must have FINALLY figured out you can’t actually PROVE your worth to an NFL team without actually playing FOR an NFL team… With this guy’s agent, I am sure someone from the outside had to explain THAT negotiating tool!

Play on we shall. And it all starts with the New Orleans Saints in week one.

The Saints were kind of the “Anti-Seahawks” last year. While Seattle was bouncing back in the second half to finish strong, the Saints were gasping for air struggling just to finish the season.

Some people thought that maybe Haslett would be sent out “da door” down in the big easy, but he is still around “ta coach dem Saints, don’t ‘cha know..”

    NEW FEATURE:

Yes, for those who have read my posts the last couple of years, I have a NEW FEATURE! (Moses is never simply resting on his prediction models)

Each week, Moses will offer a TOP THREE REASONS section for your amusement.

Now, from New Orleans, comes……….. (drum roll)….

“THE TOP THREE REASONS HASLETT KEPT HIS JOB IN NEW ORLEANS”

    3. Did not openly laugh when owner Tom Benson danced jig with feminine umbrella on the sidelines.
    2. Holds record for most beads won by a Saint head coach during Mardi Gras.
    1. Daily sacrifices chickens in voodoo ceremony.

Haslett has an explosive offense led by Aaron Brooks and Deuce “Ricky WHO?” McCallister. Add to that three top-notch receivers in Horn, Stallworth, and Pathon, and there is a whole JUMBALAYA of fine offensive football to lookout for… AAAYYY-IIIEEEEE!!!

    BUT……..

They took some hits in free agency, losing OL Kyle “the helmet ripper” Turley and safety Sammy Knight and DL Norman Hand on defense….

Hand…. Hand…. That sounds a little familiar…. Where did he go?

OH YEAH!!!! HE IS A SEAHAWK NOW!!!! I wonder if he will feel a little STRONGER facing the team that traded him away this week? Can you say, “revenge??”

THREE PLAYERS TO WATCH FOR the aints:

    1. DEUCE McCALLISTER: Is the Seahawk run defense ready for a BIG test?
    2. JOE HORN: Will he feast on a young secondary?
    3. AARON BROOKS: Will he take over this game?

THREE PLAYERS TO WATCH FOR THE SEAHAWKS:

1.MATT HASSELBECK: Is he ready to step up to the next level?
    2. WALTER JONES: Will he be effective after missing camp?
    3. RANDALL GODFREY and NORMAN HAND: Have things changed in the middle of the Seahawk defense?

    SO, CAN THEY DO IT?????

    MOSES PREDICTS:

    SEAHAWKS 34 Norlans aints: 24

SO LET IT BE WRITTEN, SO LET IT BE DONE!!!!!

    MOSES

HEY MOSES!!!! WHAT'S FOR DINNER FOR GAME ONE????
Posted by MOSES on 9/3/2003, 7:49 pm

This Sunday during the SEAHAWK/aint game, I encourage all Seahawk fans to eat the following JAMBALAYA:

    - (Fred) THOMAS English Muffins
    - Some fresh (Ashley) AMBROSE-sia
    - Some (Wayne) GANDY CANES

    - Plenty of HAM (Mitch) BERGERS
    - One can of CREAMED (Joe) HORN

    - And wash it all down wit some Some Orange DEUCE (McCallister), don’t cha know!

    AAAYYYYIIIIEEEEE!!!!!

    ENJOY DAT !!!!

The other side

"We could of at least held them to short gainers, but they ended up getting 30-yard gains out of them rather an 8-yard gain. -- Saints coach Jim Haslett

"We just didn't play as well as I would have liked and I am sure as well as they would have liked. Seattle played well. I thought they did a great job out there." -- Saints coach Jim Haslett
