"Ever since I've been here there's been a quarterback controversy," tight end Christian Fauria said. "Rick Mirer and John Friesz. Or John Friesz and Warren Moon. Or Jon Kitna and Moon. Or Kitna and Brock Huard. On and on. It's been ridiculous and I'm sick of it. A guy goes down and right away there's a quarterback controversy. The next guy is like the flavor of the month." Quarterback Controversy. Two words familiar to every Seahawks fan in every country. We've got it again! As I write, news is breaking that the Seahawks have signed Trent Dilfer to a contract for the 2002 season, promising that he has the uncontested starting quarterback position going into training camp! That, after Mike Holmgren assured us Matt Hasselbeck was the man. [Feb 17, 2002, Tacoma News Tribune, "It is our understanding that the starting quarterback job in Seattle is not available at this time," Mike Sullivan said Saturday. And... "We've asked (Dilfer) to go out and see what the market bears, then come back to us," senior vice president Mike Reinfeldt said last week.] That, after Seahawk management issued press statements showing support for Holmgren's quarterback decisions. [Feb 24, 2002, Seattle Times, "So Mike has given Matt the ball and there's going to be ups and downs. ... You ride through those ups and downs believing there's going to be a big payoff down the road." -- Bob Whitsitt, President, Seattle Seahawks] Is anyone else in Seahawkland scratching their heads in bewilderment?!? Let's talk about it!! I'd love to hear your views! And if you're looking for more controversy, may I recommend my Editorial page? That ought to get you going! Meanwhile I invited you to click on the links below to view each quarterback's individual page! I've yet to find consistent stats on QB's so I'm giving you a few different tables that I've located on the Net. Not sure which ones to believe myself; Warren Moon's numbers are particularly skewed. (Sorry -- when I get some time I'll try to research the numbers in depth.)
