Chris Newman By Chris Greenway
Say that name and most football supporters, except for those of the yellow and black variety, will say who? Newman first started playing for the Tigers in 2001, he didn't get a senior game that year, but it's not unusual. He and another first year player, Chris Hyde, vied for selection the next year. Newman got the first crack at it. He's mid sized, quite powerfully built for his size, extremely courageous and smart. He may not always get a lot of possessions, but what he gets he uses. From a few games late in 2002, he's become a regular senior list player. Not many people notice him, because he goes quietly and efficiently about his work, but he will play 10 years and rack up 200 games and very few people will know much about it, except for the poor opposition player who has to play on him. Remember the name, it is a look at Richmond's future.
Agree? Disagree? Tell me about it! I'll post your comments here, too!
From Pelic, June 2003
I must now give my raps to the wonderful Chris Newman. He will be an
absolute star. He was given a place in the side last year and I think has
only had one game which was not up to par. He has definitely earned his
place in a Richmond full strength side.
