Why is Trent Dilfer so happy?!?!

He's been named the starting quarterback of the 2002 Seattle Seahawks!!!!

OK, maybe that's not what was happening when this photo was taken, but he IS the starting quarterback of the 2002 season and this picture is indicative of my reaction to the news!!!

How long have Seahawks fans, players and coaching staff struggled through the quarterback controversies?!? I like to think that FINALLY we've got it beat!! No matter who we loved (or didn't love!) along the way, Trent Dilfer is our man and I for one am on the Dilfer bandwagon!

I haven't followed Dilfer's career through the years; I only know what the rest of you know -- that he took his team to the Super Bowl and then was released. Ouch. Then he came to Seattle midst cheers and boos to be the backup for Matt Hasselbeck in the 2001 season. Some of us liked him, some of us didn't, many of us had no particular opinion because Holmgren had made it clear that Hasselbeck was the unchallenged starting quarterback.

Indeed, Hasselbeck was the undisputed starter until injuries forced him to the sidelines. Dilfer stepped in and won games. Matt recovered from his injuries and was given back the starting position, only to be injured again and have Dilfer finish out the season on a winning streak for the Hawks. Strange but true!

I don't know why Trent Dilfer was overlooked by so many teams when he was available in free agency but I know one thing -- I'm glad he's wearing the blue and green...er, the blue and blue... of Seattle! And I'm excited for this season to begin!
