When I Talk to You: A Cartoonist Talks to God
by Michael Leunig

Overview
FROM THE PUBLISHER
A person kneels before a duck to reflect upon the troubles and joys of life, and offers thanksgivings and expressions of hope. This search for the human spirit leads to love and a better world.

This collection of prayers and drawings is full of gentle humour and evocative language, making the experience of Michael Leunig’s world both memorable and moving.

This thoughtful collection offers consolation and inspiration. It gently encourages readers to develop an awareness of their inner life and reminds us of the potential of spirituality in navigating the unpredictability of this life.

My thoughts
Birthdays are sensational!! I had no idea that Michael Leunig came out with another book and yet it arrived in a PostPak in time for my birthday celebration!

Anyone who knows me knows how much I love the cartoons and poems of Michael Leunig, and especially the prayer books. These aren't your typical prayers; in fact, they appeal to people who generally avoid prayer books at all cost. They work well for contemplation and reflection on things that happen in every day life, and they're often good for a knowing smile.

This book is a compilation of prayers taken from two earlier Leunig books, A Common Prayer amd The Prayer Tree, both of which were among my first exposure to Michael Leunig. I'm thrilled to add this book to my ever-growing collection of Leunig publications.

Favorite Passage

    Prayer for Friends
We give thanks for our friends.
    We anger each other.
    We fail each other.
We share this sad earth, this tender life, this precious time.
    Such richness. Such wildness.
    Together we are blown about.
    Together we are dragged along.
    All this delight.
    All this suffering.
    All this forgiving life.
    We hold it together.
    Amen

Reading Level
Easy read
I sat down and read half of the book the moment I took it out of the box! Most of the writing is familiar to me from other Leunig publications; otherwise it may have taken more time to read and reflect. I can easily get through this in a couple of hours, though I recommend taking your time with it and enjoying each prayer.
