The story is also a bit like a mystery, and I was drawn in quickly and eagerly. I can't imagine the lifestyle that is described, nor can I begin to imagine what those days were like, having to uproot the family time and time again because war is crashing down all around you. And yet there were survivors.

It's an amazing story. I enjoyed every bit of it.

My Thoughts
I LOVED this book! Loved it, loved it, couldn't get enough of it!

Sometimes I read a book and I start counting down the number of pages left in anticipation of starting my next book. Not this time around. I couldn't wait to read more of this book and I didn't want it to end!

The sights, the sounds, the experiences, and of course, THE FOOD, made this book highly entertaining! I don't know that I'll make any of the dishes he writes about and describes in detail, but I picked up some great cooking and serving tips, as well as some tricks when your dinner party suddenly increases and you can't get to a store.

I've read a lot of travel/food books and this is definitely one of my favorites!

Favorite Passage
“Saturday was dawning warm, with only a gentle wind under a light blue sky as we got under way. . . . With the motor cut out, I could hear the whispered splash of the sea against the hull as we knifed through the Mediterranean. The calming noise, along with the gentle rocking, lulled me into a Zen calm as I went about preparing the crew’s lunch. . . . By keeping just a couple of miles offshore, we had some beautiful sights to our starboard side: the harbor towns of La Napoule and quaint Théoule-sur-Mer, . . . the sensational coastline of the Corniche de l’Estérel. . . . All of this I could see through the porthole in the galley. . . . Italy was only a week away.”
