Steve Largent on striking (Feb. 24, 1982):

“First of all, I don’t know if there’s going to be a strike, but I definitely have made my decision. I’m unwavering in the Option as to what I’d do. “Pointing to the three priorities in his life: ‘One is that I’m a Christian. God’s word calls a contract a vow. I have made a vow with the Seattle Seahawks that I’m going to play football three more years because I’m under contract that many years. To break that vow would be wrong.

Secondly, I am a father and have a responsibility to take care of my family.

Thirdly, I’m a football player and I wouldn’t strike for the reason they (NFLPA) would ask me to right now.”
