The handshake is one issue Doornink is reluctant to discuss with outsiders, at least during this state of hostility between NFL players and management. “We had a team meeting before the game and I explained my reasons to the team. Everybody understands and there is no problem there,” Doornink said. A player’s union is necessary and helpful in many ways, he added, but he is unable to back the current contract demands.
