Seahawks 30 - Oakland 7
Even in preseason it feels good to beat the Raiders!! Old rivalries never die! :-)
I haven't been able to watch the game yet -- was it on satellite? Here it is, the start of regular season NFL football and the satellite receiver decides to konk out! How dare it!! We called the satellite people and they shipped us the newest, greatest, technological wonder of a receiver ... only to have it overheat! Of course we didn't know this until hours of troubleshooting! Aaaauuuggghhh! This MUST be fixed by Game Day! Anyway, from everything I have read about the game we had a great showing. Injuries are still somewhat of a problem for us and as a result we're still juggling assignments for some of the players, but it appears that overall we're ready for the 2006 season. I have tremendous confidence in Matt Hasselbeck and Shaun Alexander. I think our receiving corps is going to keep us moving and keep defenses guessing. I think our special teams is on the right track after a few years of struggling. Our lines? The girlie in me has trouble figuring this out on my own. What I see is quite a bit of pressure on Hasselbeck and too much scrambling of Seneca Wallace, so I hope we can tighten up any loose areas in the offensive line so our quarterback has a comfortable pocket in which to move. I really like our defensive line, except we still seem to be vulnerable to the big play. We can hold the offense for a couple of plays and even have our opponent lose yardage so that they're 3rd and long, but too often we let them complete that 3rd down play. I suppose a certain amount of that is inevitable, but I'm hoping we can work out coverages to eliminate those costly 3rd down completions by our opponent. I feel good about our coaching staff this year. Not that I haven't in the past, but we've been plagued with some shuffling in the Seahawks organization and it seems like those problems that served as distractions have finally been worked out. Despite Mike Holmgren's pause in the off-season to decide if he wanted to go into another season, it appears to me that he's comfortable with his decision and is ready to go! I'm excited about our team this year, from top to bottom! (And I LOVE the live Seahawk!) All in all, I think we're on the right track and I'm SO ready for this season to begin!
