Seahawks 17 - Washington 20 (OT)
Weeeelllllllllll.....hmpf.
I read the newspapers and I know that Coach Holmgren is sitting in a hot seat right now for his conservative play calling. Like everyone else I was wondering why we weren't trying to get more yardage while seconds were ticking off the clock to make the field goal a little easier on Josh Brown. But never mind that, it's too easy to bag on Holmgren yet again. Let's talk about the other aspects of the game. I suspected that this would be a difficult game for us to win; then again, I thought the same of the Atlanta game. When we held our own in the first half, I was actually pleased. I thought we put in a decent performance against a very good team. Then when we came out in the second half with an offensive game that was working, I was downright excited! YES! These are our 2005 Seattle Seahawks!! I was a little confused as to why we didn't see Darrell Jackson earlier in the game, wondering if his injury was a little worse than we'd been led to believe. And then I was a little more confused in the second half when all of the sudden we saw Jackson but no Engram. Of course, all of that has become clear now that we know that Engram suffered cracked ribs on the first play of the game. What a player to keep playing through the pain!!! I already respected Bobby Engram but he has flat out amazed me this time!!! All in all, I've got to say that I'm pleased with the way we performed. To tie the game and bring it to overtime despite all the travelling we had to do, despite injuries, despite Washington's home field advantage, I thought we did OK. One or two of many plays that worked out a little differently would have made a difference in the outcome of the game, and you can't really ask for more than that. I'm not suggesting I'm OK with a loss when we came so close, but I'm not ready to play the blame game either. I think there were a LOT of positives to come out of this game, and if we can get some receivers healthy, I see no reason why we can't be optimistic about the remainder of our season. I'm proud of our boys! GO SEAHAWKS!!! |
