Seahawks 20 - Washington 10
WE WON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WE WON! WE WON! WE WON!!!
I knew we could do it if we played our hearts out, AND WE PLAYED OUR HEARTS OUT!!! This was never going to be an easy game to win, and I congratulate the Redskins for a heart-stopping game of football! Their defense was a force, and their ability to capitalize on our mistakes left me sick to my stomach more than once! I have a lot of respect for Joe Gibbs and his smashmouth brand of football, and I wasn't ready to rule him out till the final snaps of the game! You gotta love a coach who let's the boys go for it on 4th and 14!!! BUT HOW ABOUT DEM HAWKS?!?! This is a story of overcoming adversity! THREE times we turned the ball over, and still we managed to get the win! We were struggling to find an offense that worked. We had slippery fingers. The run game wasn't working, and Shaun Alexander went down early with a concussion. And STILL we fought back and won! MAJOR kudos to Matt Hasselbeck for his leadership! I thought he was starting to get rattled in the second quarter but he managed to calm himself and put together a steady and sustained drive for a touchdown! THAT is the Seahawk team we've seen all season, not the 3 and out Seahawks we saw for a while early in the game! The media keeps talking about how Matt Hasselbeck has matured. OK, fine, if that's what it's called then so be it! Whatever it is, he is cool under pressure and has terrific leadership skills! I'm so proud of him! And speaking of proud, how about Coach Mike Holmgren? Whatever he said to the guys at halftime was brilliant, as they came back out onto the field ready to take command! GOOD FOR COACH HOLMGREN!!! I got so mad at the announcers when they said we were one dimensional without Alexander. Excuse me? What about Maurice Morris? THEY may not know MO, but WE do!!! And we know he's no slouch! He came into the game and did what had to be done! His style is different than Shaun's, and from my perspective as a fan it was a little scary and a little exciting because he wasn't predictable, and that made the game that much more fun! And in addition to Morris, we've got Pro Bowl Mack Strong, too! Strong set a franchise record for the longest run in post-season history today, to which I say WA HOOOO!!! When the going gets tough, the SEAHAWKS get going! I'm hesitant to pick out any one defensive player who rocks the most, as they all did a superb job today! One of the camera shots we saw that moved me to great excitement was when Tatupu and Wistrom butted heads and celebrated together! The new kid on the block with the old pro! You've gotta love the team chemistry when the rookie has the confidence to head butt an experienced veteran. That move inspired me to believe that everything they say about chemistry on this year's Seattle Seahawks team just may be true!!! Special teams? Uh, well, maybe we won't go there! We had some problems hanging onto the ball, and some of those problems were costly! But we also did a great job of keeping Washington in poor field position early in the game, and that was certain to our advantage! #12 -- YOU CAME THROUGH FOR US!!! Bravo for braving the rain and the cold to come out and cheer on our Seahawks!! Did you see the players asking for you? Did you hear Paul Allen thanking you after the game? Do you realize just how much of an edge you bring to the Seahawks? GOOD FOR YOU!!! GREAT FOR YOU!!! THANK YOU!!! We heard you and we're so glad we have you!!!!! Now it's on to bigger and better things! I believe in this Seahawks team, and no matter what else happens this season, I'm just so proud of the players, coaches, staff and ownership, and of the fans! In closing, I want to pause for a moment to remember the Legendary Dave Brown. Mr. Brown, a '76 Seahawk who is in the Ring of Honor, passed away suddenly and unexpectedly this past week. Dave Brown is a man we can all look up to. He was a terrific athlete, a role model for many, many young men, a great friend, father, and husband to those he knew. We have lost a good one, but heaven is richer this week. God Bless Dave Brown. Legends site | Tribute | Photos | Ring of Honor |
