I was born on June 25th, 1973. I don't recall that much from when I was a very small child (0 - 3), but I do recall the first football game that ever stuck in my head. My dad has told me that there was a lot of hype that year about two new teams coming into the league. Tampa Bay and Seattle were to have their inaugural seasons. I guess like all of the kids I saw get excited when Carolina and Jacksonville came in, I was excited too about the Seahawks and the Bucs. Since we live in Indiana, St. Louis wasn't far away so our local affiliates covered the Seahawk's/Cardinal's game that year. It may have been the first game I ever really saw but I don't know that for sure. All I really remember from it was the silver helmets with the "cool bird"! As I grew older, I started understanding the game and what that "cool bird" stood for. I have always loved football with a passion and have played since I was 5 or 6. I never was that good, but I always tried as hard as I could and left everything I had on the field just like my "boys" on the Seahawks. From "flag" to "tackle" I've always pretended to be players from Seattle. I was small when I was young so it started with Largent. As I got older, I got heavier, so I picked other players to emulate such as Jacob Green. I thinned back down again in high school but I played center and nose. I loved the "power players". John L. Williams, Joe Nash, and "The Boz". Not that I didn't love Blades, Largent, Warner (the original Curt), and Dave Krieg! I still remember a bet I made in '88. My friend Keith and I made a bet before the season started. Since I lived fairly close to Cincy, I followed the Bengals as well. I told him that I would take the Seahawks and the Bengals and he could have the rest of the NFL. I bet him $20 that one of those 2 teams would win it all that year. Little did I know that they would meet in the AFC Championship game. Unfortunately my Hawks lost, but he let me slide on the bet since those teams out of all teams in the NFL made it to the division championship. During college, I rarely got a chance to see Seattle play. I went to school in Kentucky so the local stations would never play them. If I was lucky, I could pick them up on an AM radio station every once in a while. While in college, I got my Seahawk tattoo. Just a small Seahawk on my leg. I'm actually pretty happy they have changed their emblem a little, because I have a reason to get another tat. Since college, I have been to every Seattle game played within a 150 mile radius of where I was living, with the exception of the St. Louis game this past season. I am in front of my TV every Sunday watching the boys in blue. (Thank God for NFL Sunday Ticket). I have a room in my house dedicated to the Hawks. My dog, whether he likes it or not, wears a Seahawks collar. My license plate on my Tundra reads "SEAHWX". I am 29 now going on 5. My wife makes fun of me because I love the Seahawks so much. I get ridiculed by friends and family members on how Seattle does each year, but I don't care. My only response is "wait until next year and we'll see". My life as a Seahawks fan has been a never-ending roller coaster, but I wouldn't have it any other way! From the first time I saw the "Cool Bird", I've had a special place in my heart for the Hawks.
