My trip to Oakland gave me a different look at the game of football. I decided to be a true fan of my Seahawks that were in town to play the Raiders. So I was in my Seattle Seahawks gear head to toe. I stood out from the rest, that was for sure. When we got into Oakland and got out the vehicle I noticed that I was being looked at by just about everyone, and this was just inside a Burger King, lol.
I went into the bathroom and in walked three Raider fans right after me. "You are wearing the wrong colors," one said. "Don't be caught in the bathroom at the game," the other replied. We ate our breakfast and started our drive up to the stadium parking area. Raiders fans combed the streets as they headed toward their tailgate parties. We then got our parking spot and began our walk toward the Coliseum. As we walked I heard people shout, "Go back home", "The Seachickens suck". I kept to myself and kept walking. As I look up ahead I saw an ocean of Raiders flags attached to the vehicles of the Rabid Raider fans. This was unavoidable. I had to walk down through the tailgate parties to make it to the stadium. The walk was really interesting, it was like a chain reaction. One person started booing and then everyone started talking their trash. I was called just about every name in the book. I just kept my head up, smiled, and waved to all the screaming fans as they verbally assaulted me. I knew that what they were doing was making me feel unwelcome in their home, and that was all. I did what I had to do and just let them say what they wanted to say to me. After a few hours of verbal abuse we were allowed to access the stadium. My friend Danny and I went down to the lower level to watch some players practice. Soon enough Shawn Springs was walking toward us. "This is not happening", I told myself. But sure enough he stopped messing around with the Raider fans that were taunting him. "I need to go talk to my boy that is representin", he said. (I was wearing his jersey.) I asked him if I could have my picture taken with him and he said yes. So I got to take my picture with him and shake his hand. It didn't end there either, Michael Sinclair started to talk with the Raider fans and then he came over to me, shook my hand, autographed my gamebook, and let me take a picture with him. It was like a dream come true. I never thought I'd meet a Seahawk player, let alone two, but I did. Then it was game time so we got our seats and watched the game as the Seahawks got knocked off by the Raiders 31-3. The fact that I met Shawn and Michael made the day a little bit better for me. Then after the game I had to go through the same thing as earlier in the day. But this time I had a few Raider fans come up to me and shake my hand and tell me that I had heart and that I was brave. So that ends my trip to the game that would have been even sweeter if our Seahawks would have won. Now Danny has bragging rights over me until next year.
