“When I was down in my career, I sensed people were encouraged by my faith. When I’ve been on top, I see more people impressed by my faith. I think there’s a difference.”-- Trent Dilfer

Brian Davis: When you look at what's happened with you the last year, let's go back to the preseason a year ago, the injury, and then the achilles, and then you get into the off-season and you lose Trevin. There are some people that could not survive that. If you don't mind, let's just talk about that for a minute. How have you stood that?

Trent: Well, I think above anything else it's been my faith. As a Christian I'm called to not get caught up in my circumstances, and not let my circumstances dictate my actions. When you get a tough break, the injury in training camp, when things aren't going well, when you tear your achilles, you have great personal family adversity, the easy thing to do is complain. The easy thing to do is feel sorry for yourself. The easy thing to do is not face it. And my faith calls me to face it and embrace it, and let it change me as a man. And, obviously, losing my son is the most difficult thing I can imagine going through. But through it I think I've embraced the fact that my time here on this planet is temporary, and I look forward to a better future, and I know that's what my son's enjoying, and I can stomach it because of that. You know, I define courage as doing the right thing when the right thing is the hardest thing to do. And so many times we do the easy thing instead of the right thing, and I've tried to do the right thing. I have not always succeeded, I've failed many times. But the more I keep trying to do it, the more I face these obstacles in my life, I see God molding me into somebody that is stronger, somebody that can have an influence on others, and somebody that, when times are toughest, can stand up and be at his best.
